National Grid Launch Official Pylon Consultation on 10th April 2024

National Grid’s final Pylons Consultation starts now

You can see their website here and interactive map here

How to help Aldham Parish Council to respond to the Statutory Consultation

When you start looking through the consultation documents, make notes about your parish as you read. Parish Councillors are often overworked (and they give up their time for free, of course). It will be invaluable for them to have detailed input from residents.

WE NEED AS MANY DETAILED PARISH COUNCIL RESPONSES TO THE STATUTORY CONSULTATION AS POSSIBLE.

As previously, the suggested format is:

Object to N2T as proposed. Use Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons action group guidance for that. It will be available nearer to the end of the consultation. We cannot prepare it earlier as we have a number of consultants to coordinate.

Object to the N2T route through your parish. Set out any HARMS that you see. That could be anything from heritage, archaeology, traffic, habitats, species, proximity to buildings, particularly stupid location of a pylon, harm caused by undergrounding etc.

Now is the time where you can start to set out suggestions for specific improvements to the project in your parish, while maintaining a position that there are better alternatives to the project. National Grid has ignored you until now, so it is legitimate to have a back-up position at this stage. (We did not advise this previously).

For example you could state, "For the reasons set out above, the N2T project is unacceptable and should not go ahead given other deliverable options which meet the need. However, in Aldham Parish in Essex, should the project go ahead, it should be undergrounded due to [list reasons]"

Keep an eye on their website throughout: www.pylonseastanglia.co.uk/actions

With thanks, as ever, from Rosie Pearson and the Essex Suffolk Norfolk Pylons team for the above
