Statement on Mill Race Moto
Statement on Mill Race Moto (Printable version available here millracemoto.pdf)
Thanks to all those who attended the Parish Council meeting on 6th October. The Council heard from over 40 residents about the significant impact on their amenity and peace of mind resulting from customers travelling to and from Mill Race Moto. The high level of disturbance from the noise and speed generated by motor bike and performance cars is greatly affecting Ford Street, Brook Road and New Road in particular.
The owners of Mill Race Moto also attended the meeting and acknowledged the disturbance caused by their customers and explained what actions they had been taking in terms of liaison with the Police, signage, notices on social media and banning known offenders, in an effort to reduce the impact.
The Parish Council take the concerns of residents seriously but has to recognise that our powers to exercise control are very limited in these circumstances. However, as representatives of our community we do want to ensure the voices of those affected are heard by others who may be able to assist.
The Parish Council has already had informal discussions with Mill Race Moto owners and Essex Police and these will continue. However, we will now take up the issue with the City Planning Department and Environmental Health to clarify the planning position and any relevant noise regulations through our Ward Councillors, and with ECC Highways through our County Councillor, regarding ongoing efforts to secure funding and agreement for additional speed restrictions and traffic management measures across the village. In addition, Mill Race Moto have agreed to:
- put a sign opposite the entrance asking customers to respect neighbours over speed and noise,
- put temporary directional signs out on New Road when they are open to help with Sat Nav location, and
- add signs on site reminding customers to be mindful of nearby neighbours and local residents.
We continue to monitor traffic volumes and speed, taking data from the Speed Indicator Devices on Brook Road and Ford Street, and the latest information from September will be posted shortly on our web site.
Traffic issues have been a focus of work for Aldham Parish Council for several years tackling rat running during the A12 resurfacing saga, the impacts of congestion on the A120, Pumpkin Patch gridlock and potholes. We have also worked with other Parishes to address the increased traffic to industrial sites in Wormingford. We have used Parish funds to purchase Speed Indicator devices and have pressed City and County Councils for help. We are now also looking at recommencing the Community Speed Watch initiative and we will also be posting further details on this and hope we can gain your support.
The Parish Council will provide further updates via Grapevine, the Parish web site and future meetings. In the meantime we would encourage those affected to record instances of any particular problems or inappropriate or anti-social behaviour and notify us by email clerk [at] aldhamparishcouncil.gov.uk (subject: Anti-Social%20behaviour%20in%20our%20Village) with time, location, and, if possible, vehicle details, together with your name and address, in order to make the information much more useful if we have to raise it with the various authorities.
